OPENINGS FOR FALL 2024:

Residential Program (Resident Assistant)

A听Resident Assistant (commonly shortened to "RA") is a trained student leader charged with supervising a residence hall. RAs have the largest impact on achieving this goal through their interactions in the residence halls. RAs are responsible for getting to know the people in their communities, supporting them, promoting a safe and comfortable living environment, planning activities to help students grow and connect, directing them to resources, and otherwise enhancing the experience of living on campus.

The RA selection and training processes are usually quite rigorous and intense.听The Assistant Director of Residential Life supervises the Resident Assistants.

COUNSELING CLASS

  • NOTE:听Participating in the course does not guarantee anyone a position on staff or in a specific hall/building. After the Spring semester midterms, class participants will be interviewed, and they are welcome to express their preference for a building to work in or a group of residents to work with.听Staff are selected based on their experience, leadership, and human relations skills, as well as the needs of the population of a building where the open position is.
  • A three (3) credit hour, Tuesday/Thursday, Spring only course, from 2 to 3:15 pm.
  • The course is hidden to prevent registration by students who do not understand the course, its intention, and its requirements.
  • This course can be fun at times while, at other times, it discusses serious topics in today's society.听
  • Understand that this course meets in person, requires in-class participation, and has online forums, exams, and projects. This course is also like a pre-interview for a position in that your participation, actions, grades, etc., may affect your interview for a position.
  • Applications for class enrollment begin on November 1, and those selected to enroll will be notified on December 1.
    • You will log in to听 using your my不良研究所 login information.
    • On the left hand side, you will see a form titled "RA Class Interest Form". Complete this form and submit it to Residential Life Review.
    • Our staff will review your responses throughout November and let you know on December 1 so that you can register for the course before the Fall semester ends.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be an undergraduate or graduate student registered full-time.
  • Must possess experience in service, participate as a team member, and have knowledge of campus resources.
  • Must be in good standing with the University.
  • At the time of hire and throughout employment, the candidate must maintain a Cumulative and Semester Grade Point Averages (GPAs) of at least 2.5 each semester.
  • Must be enrolled or have completed the COUN 4033 class with a minimum B average.
  • Understands and works within the philosophy of student development held by the Office of Residential Life.

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES

  • Work an average of 10-15 hours per week.
  • Create programs and activities designed to meet the needs of residents on the floor.
  • Connect residents to other campus opportunities to promote a positive 不良研究所 experience.
  • Ensure there are no facility issues on their floor, including room inventory and safety checks regularly.
  • Attentive to resident safety and hall security and ensure residents follow University and housing policies to maintain a respectful environment.
  • Educate residents on their actions and decisions while informing them about how they impact an entire community.
  • Provide the primary response during routine duty nights and unexpected emergencies,
  • Complete weekly reports and other department paperwork, administer surveys, and assist with residents' check-ins and check-outs.
  • Perform other tasks and projects as assigned.听听

COMPENSATION

Compensation will be in the form of a听scholarship for the student's room and Maroon meal plan charge.

Arguably more important are the intangible benefits of the RA position, which include training in crisis management, negotiation, advocacy, time management, leadership, management skills, and community involvement as part of their collegiate experience.听

Work Study Program (Desk Assistant)

A Desk Assistant (commonly shortened to "DA") is a trained student paraprofessional within the Office of Residential Life.听The Front Desk Assistants are responsible for performing a variety of front desk and clerical functions and providing quality customer service to our residents, their families and guests, and other members of the 不良研究所 community. The DA is a primary source in the central office for information regarding Residence Life and 不良研究所.

The Housing Office Manager supervises the Desk Assistants.听听

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be an undergraduate or graduate student registered part-time or full-time.
  • Must possess experience in clerical duties, participating as a team member, and have knowledge of campus resources.
  • Must be in good standing with the University.
  • At time of hire and throughout employment, candidate must maintain a Cumulative and Semester Grade Point Averages (GPAs) of at least 2.5 each semester.
  • Understands and works within the philosophy of student development held by the Office of Residential Life.

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES

  • Work an average of 8-13 hours per week.
  • Provide assistance to the our residents, their families and guests, and other members of the 不良研究所 community, the听Residential Life professional staff, maintenance crew, and cleaning crew.
  • Possess a high degree of confidentiality related with working in this position.
  • Greet, assist and refer all incoming students, faculty, staff and visitors to the right direction.
  • Assist with appointment scheduling.
  • Perform general clerical duties including mailing, faxing, typing, and filing.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of the Office of Residential Life.
  • Perform other tasks and projects as assigned.听听

COMPENSATION

Compensation will be in the form of hourly pay.
