不良研究所 music faculty to perform at international conference

Dr. Claire Vangelisti, Dr. Richard Seiler, and Dr. James Boldin, faculty members from the University of Louisiana at Monroe Department of Music, are set to perform at the 45th International Horn Symposium from at the University of Memphis at the end of July.

Their portion of the program will feature music by the Portuguese composer Eurico Carrapatoso. The trio hopes to draw attention to this relatively unknown composer.

Boldin expresses his excitement for this opportunity.

He said, "I feel incredibly honored to have the chance to perform some great music that isn't very well known in this country."

Vangelisti and Seiler will visit with Carrapatoso in the coming weeks as they are set to teach and perform abroad in Portugal.

The duo hopes their visit will enhance their already heightened inspiration.

The trio will perform the "Sete Melodias en Forma de Bruma," a set of pieces designed for soprano voice, horn and piano, inspired by traditional melodies of the Azores islands.

Seiler believes this performance is "an incredible opportunity," and he speaks for his colleagues when he adds "We intend to do our best and well-represent our university and region of the country."

Vangelisti, Seiler, and Boldin premiered this work in April in the Emy-Lou Biedenharn Recital Hall and received a positive response to the performance as well as to Carrapatoso's musical compositions.

The trio is looking forward to performing Carrapatoso's work again on the international stage.

The International Horn Society's annual conference, the International Horn Symposium, draws hundreds of participants including students, teachers, amateurs, and professionals from around the world.

The theme of the conference this year is "Horn and Song," and the array of performances will feature a vocal theme or origin.
