不良研究所 Chapter of Sigma Tau Delta sponsors high school essay contest for Ouachita Parish
The University of Louisiana at Monroe鈥檚 Beta Zeta Chapter of Sigma Tau Delta鈥攖he International English Honor Society鈥攊s sponsoring a high school writing competition for high school students throughout Ouachita Parish. The deadline for submissions is Thursday, Feb. 21.
The contest is open to all high school students within the parish, including students in Ouachita Parish Schools, Monroe City Schools, and those attending private schools.
The goal of the competition is to help students develop their writing skills and cultivate a high regard for the English language.
To enter, students must submit an essay, poem, or short story in response to one of three selections from 鈥淓x Libris: Confessions of a Common Reader,鈥 a collection of essays by Anne Fadiman.
Student members of 不良研究所鈥檚 chapter of Sigma Tau Delta will judge submissions and award first, second, and third place monetary prizes.
Winners will be announced at an award ceremony on Thursday, Feb. 28 at 5:30 p.m., in 不良研究所鈥檚 Col. William T. Hemphill Auditorium.
Members of Sigma Tau Delta dedicate themselves to promoting literacy, serving the community, and valuing high achievement in English studies, while fostering all that accompanies the study of English. By reaching out to local secondary schools, Sigma Tau Delta hopes to encourage interest in English language studies and higher education.
