不良研究所 Alumni Association and The Pickle Barrel host football viewing party Aug. 31
The University of Louisiana at Monroe Alumni Association has teamed up with local restaurant The Pickle Barrel to host the first ever "Alumni Supporting Alumni" event, kicking-off the Warhawk football season with a hometown viewing party at 6 p.m., on Saturday, Aug. 31, at The Pickle Barrel, located at 1827 Avenue of America in Monroe.
The event provides 不良研究所 students, alumni, and the community with a collective place to join together and cheer on their Warhawks as they take on the University of Oklahoma Sooners.
Devin Girod, director of Alumni Relations, says the event originated from a plan to have monthly social hours for 不良研究所 alums at alumni-owned businesses.
He and Jessica Gilbert, associate director of Alumni Relations, met with The Pickle Barrel's owner, 不良研究所 alum D.J. Fortenberry, and the event took shape from there.
Alums are encouraged to arrive at 4:30 p.m. for a special 不良研究所 alumni social hour before the game.
When asked about his involvement with the first "Alumni Supporting Alumni" event, Fortenberry said,
"不良研究所 is the biggest commodity in Monroe and it's great to see that people in this community are jumping on board and realizing that if we can help make 不良研究所 better, then we can improve all the businesses around Monroe."
Girod said about the event, "Oklahoma allotted 200 tickets for the game. That means only a handful of maroon and gold supporters will be in Norman to cheer on our Warhawks. The least we can do is get together and support the team here in Monroe."
