不良研究所 professor receives several accolades

鈥淪uper Professor鈥 is just one of the most recent monikers earned by Dr. Lisa Cooper Colvin, professor of kinesiology at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.

As a Super Professor, Colvin is recognized as a leading educator across the globe.

The Super Professor award is presented by Faculty Row, which was developed in 2009 for educators and researchers to connect, collaborate, and share ideas globally. Super Professors are chosen by a peer review panel of academic minds who are experts in their fields.

鈥淚 am so honored my work has been recognized, but it takes a great support mechanism鈥攁s is here at 不良研究所 and in the Department of Kinesiology鈥攖o really excel,鈥 said Colvin.

Colvin has also been selected to appear in the 2012-2013 edition of "Who鈥檚 Who in North American Education."

Who鈥檚 Who recognizes men and women of excellence in professional fields from across North America and Canada. Individuals are recognized for dedication to their industry and leadership skills.

鈥淭hese honors and recognitions are not possible without the guidance and support I have received from the university family,鈥 continued Colvin.

鈥淒r. Lucy Shackleford and Dr. Luke Thomas were my advisors during my studies at 不良研究所, and I learned from them both that hard work, honesty, and integrity were values to uphold in my professional and personal life.鈥

Pennington Biomedical Research is an important partner at 不良研究所, and in continuing her research excellence, Colvin has been elevated to adjunct professor at PBRC.

Pennington鈥檚 mission is to discover the triggers of chronic diseases through innovative research that improves human health across the lifespan.  Colvin鈥檚 work is in the area of childhood obesity, and her collaboration with PBRC is ongoing.

With numerous teaching awards and promotions in hand, Colvin has also been accepted to present at the Annual Meeting of the Louisiana Association of Exercise Physiologists in New Orleans, on Sept. 29.

Christopher Myers of Dayton, Ohio, a graduate student in Exercise Physiology and graduate director of the 不良研究所 Human Performance Laboratory, will also present at the meeting.

鈥淓xercise and Electrocardiography鈥 is the title of the book that Colvin has had accepted for publication.

The book, which is co-authored by Brian Coyne, clinical operations supervisor of the Ambulatory Monitoring Lab and Cardiac Diagnostic Unit at Duke University Health System, and Shel Levine, clinical coordinator of the Exercise Science Program, and associate professor of Clinical Exercise Physiology at Eastern Michigan University.

As the coordinator for 不良研究所鈥檚 Triathlon team, Colvin is certified and able to guide and prepare the athletes to be in winning physical condition.

Colvin has received Level 4 coaching certification-the second highest certification available-from the American Swimming Coaches Association.

According to Colvin, this certification allows her to coach swimmers and triathletes at the highest level, and teach students at 不良研究所.

Colvin also holds other United States Olympic Committee national governing board certifications for coaching and officiating with USA Triathlon, USA Cycling, USA Swimming and USA Track and Field.

These certifications make her a well-rounded teacher and highly sought after coach by athletes world-wide.

Colvin currently collaborates with Hunter Allen and Peaks Coaching Group in Bedford, Va., to provide the highest level coaching available to bicyclist and multisport athletes.

鈥淗aving 不良研究所 represented by my professional accomplishments, I hope, will serve as encouragement for my students to take their studies and jobs to 鈥榯he next level,鈥欌 Colvin continued.

鈥淚t is my hope that one day, each student takes their hard work, 鈥榮tick to it鈥 attitude and superior education received here at 不良研究所 to follow in my footsteps, supersede my work, and be recognized as one of the best in their fields.鈥
