KEDM Public Radio and the Southern Education Desk offer a series on good teaching
KEDM Public Radio, 90.3 FM, will air its "Good Teaching," series during the week of May 21, at 7:35 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. each day. The broadcasts will feature in-depth reports from the journalistic collective of regional reporters who form the Southern Education Desk.
What, exactly, makes a great teacher?
"One teacher may say passion, one teacher may say creativity, one teacher may say innovation. One teacher may say compassion. One may say drive, one may say ambition," says Anthony Pitts, the Monroe City District's Middle School teacher of the year. But he says the sum of those attributes is greater than their parts: "I say it is all of those things. It is all of those inherent qualities."
The series will begin on Monday with a wide-ranging piece that asks important questions about how successful educators do their job. Throughout the week reporters will tackle questions that range from the fundamental, such as "how does the love of teaching factor into becoming a great educator?" to finer points about pedagogical style.
The best teaching methods are unveiled in stories that address "command and compassion" in their connection to classroom management. Reporters will also inquire into the best means of supporting promising young teachers in the classroom, as well as how to evaluate good teaching.
These and other topics will be covered at length in this exciting series!
The reports will be archived on KEDM's web site at .
