Warhawk Baseball Receives Recognition from State Government

Coming off of a Sun Belt Conference championship and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament, both the Louisiana State Senate and House of Representatives honored 不良研究所 head coach Jeff Schexnaider.

The first honor was a senate resolution, from Louisiana Senators Neil Riser and Mike Walsworth, to commemorate the team鈥檚 successful season. The second, a resolution from the House of Representatives, was awarded by Frank Hoffmann and Bubba Chaney.

鈥淭hese are great honors from the state government,鈥 said Schexnaider. 鈥淲hile I am the one accepting it, it was a team effort, my coaching staff as well as our players worked extremely hard this year. Their hard work paid off as we won the Sun Belt and played in the NCAA tournament.鈥

The fifth-seeded Warhawks claimed the 2012 Sun Belt Championship in Bowling Green, Ky. (May 23-27). With the 4-2 win over Arkansas State in the championship game, 不良研究所 earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament, its fifth overall and first since the 2000 season.

The Warhawks earned the four seed in the Baton Rouge Regional and 不良研究所 was joined by LSU (one seed), Oregon State (two seed) and Belmont (three seed).

鈥淲inning the conference title is a great accomplishment for the Warhawk baseball team,鈥 Riser stated. 鈥淚t puts the university back where we should be and it benefits the efforts of the athletic department and the university as a whole. This championship and NCAA tournament appearance also builds a great sense of pride in the community.鈥

In the first game of the regional, 不良研究所 and LSU were tied at one after the top of the seventh. However, the Tigers scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh en route to the 4-1 win. The Warhawks bounced back with a 6-3 win over Belmont before falling to Oregon State.
