不良研究所 Pharmacy & Cancer Research Center receives community donation
Prominent breast cancer researcher Dr. Paul Sylvester, Pfizer Endowed Professor of Pharmacology at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, received a community donation that will help fund future research.
The donation, pooled by various north Louisiana community members and organizations following a Ride for the Cure event in October, totaled $1,782.58.
Loyce Miller, organizer of the event, said she was impressed with what she discovered upon her research.
鈥淲e Googled 'breast cancer research' and found Dr. Sylvester's work, which was close, reputable and impressive. We chose to donate our funds to Dr. Sylvester's research because he is making a name for 不良研究所's breast cancer research. We were impressed with the program, Dr. Sylvester's awards, and his other grants. In addition, his research is conducted close to home鈥攏orth Louisiana.鈥
Sylvester has been a part of a growing trend of excellence in research at 不良研究所.
He, joined by his colleagues, has been awarded four patents with his colleagues and has presented the results of his research worldwide.
Sylvester has maintained continuous extramural funding for his research over the past 18 years and has received research grants from various institutions including the National Cancer Institute, American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, and American Institute for Cancer Research.
鈥淭his donation is the type of funding that is absolutely necessary to carry on cutting-edge cancer research in the College of Pharmacy at 不良研究所,鈥 said Sylvester.
鈥淲e greatly appreciate the support and our newly established partnership between these donors and the 不良研究所 College of Pharmacy. Their contribution to our research is extremely valued and will be put to good use.鈥
Sylvester received his B.S. from Western Michigan University and a Ph.D. from Michigan State University.
Sylvester completed his Postdoctoral Training at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, NY.
