不良研究所's Thameling collaborates on paper accepted at regional conference

Dr. Carl L. Thameling, department head and associate professor of communication at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, and Dr. Takuji Shimada of Tenri University in Japan co-authored a paper that has been accepted at a regional conference.

The paper, titled "A Cross-Cultural Comparison of Everyday Account-Giving Situation Between Japanese and American Students" has been accepted for presentation at the 2011 Western States Communication Association Interpersonal Communication Interest Group Conference in Albuquerque, N.M.

The paper focuses on the similarities and differences of interpersonal accounts that Japanese and American college students experience in their everyday lives.

Specifically, the paper attempts to uncover how frequent Japanese and American students encounter account-giving and account-receiving experiences and what are the characteristics of such episodes in terms of who is involved, what are the motives, and what are the perceived causes.
