不良研究所 receives 鈥淪tormReady鈥 designation

The National Weather Service announces that 不良研究所 has met criteria, established by the NWS, for the reception and dissemination of emergency weather information and preparedness activities.

This recognition means that 不良研究所 is StormReady through 2013 and is the first university in Louisiana to be so declared.

Being a StormReady University means 不良研究所 has taken the initiative to ensure its faculty, students, and campus infrastructure are prepared to deal with deadly and destructive severe weather events.

Armando L. Garza, Meteorologist in charge of the Weather Forecast Office in Shreveport, said, 鈥湶涣佳芯克 is showing its leadership role by completely fulfilling the requirements established specifically for universities, and is making history by being recognized as the first higher learning StormReady institution in the state of Louisiana.鈥

不良研究所 Police Chief Larry Ellerman spearheaded the recognition effort on behalf of 不良研究所.

鈥淭his partnership with the NWS represents our efforts to serve the 不良研究所 community and ensure its safety,鈥 said Ellerman. 鈥淲e鈥檙e excited to be the first school in Louisiana to receive this designation and look forward to working with the NWS in the future.鈥

不良研究所 Alum Keith Stellman, who received a bachelor鈥檚 of science degree in atmospheric sciences from 不良研究所 in 1996, trained Ellerman and the other 不良研究所 officers as the warning coordination meteorologist in Shreveport.

The National Weather Service in Shreveport, 不良研究所, and the Ouachita Parish Office of Emergency Management will recognize the university for its StormReady designation at 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 10.
