不良研究所鈥檚 Carpenter attends Early American Borderlands conference
An assistant professor of history at the University of Louisiana at Monroe attended the Early American Borderlands conference in St. Augustine, Fla., May 12-15.
Dr. Roger Carpenter presented a paper titled "Interracial Sex and the Law in Plymouth Colony," which dealt with the efforts of law enforcement to control sexual behavior, including fornication and adultery, in the early American colony.
鈥淭he letter of the law was often not followed and the magistrates had some leeway,鈥 said Carpenter.
The conference, which brought together almost 200 scholars from across the country, was sponsored by the Society of Early Americanists, Flagler College, the University of Maryland, the University of Kansas, Spain's Ministry of Culture Program of Cooperation with American Universities, and the St. Augustine Historical Society.
