不良研究所's Division of VAPA hosts world-famous composer

The Division of Music of the School of Visual and Performing Arts at 不良研究所 will host world-famous composer William Bolcom as its Composer-In-Residence for 2010.

Named 2007 Composer of the Year by Musical America, and honored with multiple Grammy Awards for his ground-breaking setting of Blake's Songs of Innocence and of Experience, Bolcom is a composer of cabaret songs, concertos, sonatas, operas, symphonies, piano rags and much more. He was awarded the 1988 Pulitzer Prize in Music for his Twelve New Etudes for piano.

On Monday, February 22, Bolcom's Solo and Chamber works will be performed at 7:30 p.m. in the Emy-Lou Biedenharn Recital Hall. This program will include a performance by the composer of one of his most famous compositions, "Graceful Ghost Rag." At 11 a.m., Tuesday, February 24, Bolcom will present a lecture and masterclass in the recital hall, followed by a 7:30 p.m. student performance of Bolcom's large ensemble works in Brown Auditorium, including a performance by the composer and his wife, celebrated mezzo-soprano Joan Morris.

All these events are free and open to the public.
