不良研究所 French professor receives grant to attend Goethe Institute

The Goethe Institute, a non-profit German cultural institution, recently invited 不良研究所's Dr. Fredrick Adams to study in Germany.

Adams, an associate professor of French at 不良研究所, was awarded a grant through the German Academic Exchange Service, or DAAD, the organization through which the Goethe institute makes its awards.

The exchange offers numerous funding opportunities for students and scholars to study and research throughout Germany. Its goals include promoting Germany as an important academic destination and increasing university ties around the world.

"The grants offered by the Institute are awarded to scholars who hold the Ph.D. and who have been working in research and teaching in the U.S.," explained 不良研究所 Foreign Language Department Head Dr. Ruth Smith. "We are extremely proud of Dr. Adams for earning this distinction."

The Goethe Institute Berlin is situated in the historic center of the city, the former East Berlin.

Adams will study the German language in Berlin from Jan. 4 - 29, 2011. He will attend classes and take advantage of the video, audio, and computer services offered through the Institute's language media center. As an Institute scholar, he may participate in the extensive cultural program activities offered to gain insight into the many different areas of Berlin. Adams will also be able to take advantage of the important museums, art collections, concerts, theaters, and opera productions offered in the city.

Adams earned his Bachelor of Arts in French from 不良研究所, a Masters of Arts from LSU and a Ph.D. at the University of Louisiana Lafayette. In addition to German, his study of languages includes Spanish, Russian, and Italian. He has been teaching at 不良研究所 since 1979.
