New Warhawks make their nests at 不良研究所 during Move-in Mania

不良研究所鈥檚 annual Move-In Mania kicked into high gear on Friday morning, Aug. 20, and the telltale signs were everywhere.

Parking lots, awash in a sea of cars, carried license plates reflecting the diverse background of the students who descended on campus. Parents and extended family members were on hand to assist both new and returning students as they carted large pieces of luggage, along with boxes containing small screen televisions and dorm-sized refrigerators, into rooms that will be the students鈥 home away from home for a while.

James Davis, 18, a new resident of Masur Hall, was one such student. He arrived at the 不良研究所 Activity Center from his hometown of Monterey for early check-in on Friday. He had begun moving into his new digs by 10:30 a.m., with a little help from his mother, Janice Davis.

鈥淚 was thinking we鈥檇 put the towels here, on the bottom shelf,鈥 she suggested, as she helped him unpack and dug ever deeper into her son鈥檚 oversized suitcase full of clothes and assorted other items.

James had just returned from the Masur Hall lobby where he picked up his room keys and several tidbits of information, including the available list of cable channels for his television. He met Masur Hall Resident Director William Davis (no relation) who, for a couple of years now, has stepped up to the role of surrogate parent to the hundreds of underclassman who spend their semesters at Masur Hall.

By the end of the weekend, after the dust had settled, teary-eyed parents drove away and empty boxes filled nearby dumpsters, the fun of Bayou Jam and other weekend activities beckoned students to venture out of their rooms.

By Monday morning, the campus was abuzz again as the students made their way to their classrooms, the library, the bookstore, the Student Union Building and other popular spots such as Starbucks.

And, as the summer heat gives way to cooler autumn days, the students will return many times to dorm rooms all over campus to mingle with roommates, relax, and of course, study feverishly for mid-terms and final semester exams.
