不良研究所 Band Department offers free concerts in spring schedule; next concert April 26
The 不良研究所 Band Department has several upcoming concerts that are free and open to the public.
Perennial favorite, the Percussion Ensemble, will perform at 7:30 p.m., April 26, followed by the Jazz Ensemble on April 27 at 7:30 p.m. Larry Anderson conducts both the Percussion Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble and both performances are in Brown Auditorium.
The Wind Ensemble ends the concert season with a special free concert at 7:30 p.m., May 7. The Wind Ensemble, conducted by Derle R. Long, will perform three new band pieces, all written by either a local composer or composers with close ties to 不良研究所.
The first piece is titled Dionysus and was composed by Roger Jones, former 不良研究所 music faculty member and former conductor of the Monroe Symphony Orchestra. The second piece is titled Salome Dances and was written by John Goss who is a music specialist with the Ouachita Parish Schools. The third piece is called Before The Law and was written by Thomas Ritter who is a retired band director in the Twin Cities area.
The remainder of the program will include three settings of American gospel songs featuring mezzo soprano Elizabeth Boston Bennett, March Militaire Francaise featuring guest conductor Michael Spears, Gustav Holst's First Suite in Eb featuring graduate guest conductor Thomas Ruby, and the Gallant Seventh March by John Phillip Sousa.
