不良研究所 history professor conjures Voodoo at library talk

University of Louisiana at Monroe Assistant Professor Jeff Anderson will present a "Hoodoo and Voodoo" lecture for patrons of the Ouachita Parish Library on Monday, July 13.

Anderson will draw some of the material for his talk from his first two books, 鈥淐onjure in African American Society鈥 and 鈥淗oodoo, Voodoo, and Conjure: A Handbook.鈥

Anderson will explain the history of voodoo and hoodoo, focusing on its roots in African religion and its gradual transformation into uniquely African-American practices.

Regional variations in African-American religion and magic, items used in their practice, and how they have changed over the years will also be discussed.

鈥淭hough I will spend a good bit of time talking about the Louisiana manifestations, I will also cover their history in other parts of the American South,鈥 said Anderson.

The lecture is free and open to the public.
