不良研究所 Gerontology Program to host Louisiana Geriatric Society conference June 6 鈥 7
The 不良研究所 Gerontology Program will host the annual mid-year conference of the Louisiana Geriatric Society June 6 鈥 7 at the University Conference Center (不良研究所 Library, seventh floor). The Louisiana Geriatric Society will co-host the event.
The conference will begin on Friday, June 6 with registration at 4 p.m., followed by an 鈥淓lder Law Issues and Elder Law Update鈥 presentation, dinner at 6:15 p.m., the presentation of a gerontology award, and a keynote address by Dr. Richard D. Smith Jr., titled 鈥淗ealth Care and Minority Elderly.鈥 The day鈥檚 events will conclude at 8:30 p.m.
The conference will continue Saturday, June 7, from 7:30 a.m. 鈥 3:45 p.m., beginning with a continental breakfast and followed by these presentations:
- 鈥淓valuation and Management of Constipation鈥
- 鈥淣utrition and the Elderly: Are We Meeting Their Needs?鈥
- 鈥淪eizures Disorder Among the Elderly and in Long-term Care Settings鈥
- 鈥淐ounseling the Elderly Addict鈥 (given by 不良研究所鈥檚 Dr. Chris Johnson)
- 鈥淓lder Abuse: The Impact of Education on Awareness鈥 (given by Tahari Griffin, a recent graduate of the 不良研究所 master鈥檚 degree in gerontology program)
- 鈥淭he Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE)鈥
- 鈥淎 Sense of Space鈥 (given by 不良研究所鈥檚 Dr. June Bruyninckx)
- 鈥淐oalition for Change: Advancing Long-term Care Options in Louisiana.鈥
Applications for continuing education credits or contact hours have been requested for: long-term care administrators, counseling, nursing activity directors, physicians, and social workers. The status of approval for CEU credits or the respective contact hours may be checked online by going to: or by email to lgswelch@bellsouth.net with the subject LGS.
The Louisiana Geriatric Society鈥檚 mission is to promote high quality, comprehensive and accessible care for Louisiana's older population, including those who are chronically ill and disabled. The organization's goal is to provide leadership to health care professionals, policy makers and the public by developing, implementing and advocating programs in patient care, research, professional and public education, and public policy.
The registration fee of $85 includes program materials, meals, participant certificate, and CEU, CME or contact hours certificate.
