Rappaport serves on local committee to raise funds for Jewish Cemetery鈥檚 preservation; concert on Jan. 26

Harvey Rappaport, associate professor of clinical and administrative science at 不良研究所, wishes to preserve a valuable historical landmark, the Jewish Cemetery, located at Manasas Street in Monroe.

To that end, Rappaport serves on the Temple B鈥檔ai Concert Project, which promotes 鈥淎 Tribute to Jewish American Composers of the 20th Century,鈥� an event scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m., held in Temple B鈥檔ai Israel (located at the corner of Orell Place and Park Avenue).

This second annual program will raise funds for the preservation of Monroe's Jewish Cemetery.

Rappaport, a member of the Temple, invites the university community to join in the celebration of Jewish-American composers, and their songs of passion about life experiences, goodness, love, and patriotism.

鈥淚 would also like to make Jewish students at 不良研究所 aware of their local place of worship, as well as introducing non-Jews to some of the activities being conducted at the Temple. For example, in addition to the show, we are currently holding lessons in Hebrew for everyone. We appreciate the support the community has given us.鈥�

Billy Ledbetter, Rod Allen Payne, and Lisa McCalmon formed an ensemble especially for the event. The concert will include music from the likes of Leonard Bernstein, George Gershwin and Irving Berlin, as well as more contemporary artists such as Neil Diamond and Neil Sedaka.
