Upcoming Nexus discussions focus on Social Science Research March 3

The educational and cultural Chautauqua Nexus series continues its 2008 spring semester roster with scheduled discussions in early to mid-March.

不良研究所鈥檚 Social Science Research Lab will lead Monday, March 3rd鈥檚 presentation, titled 鈥淧erspectives on Economic and Cultural Development.鈥� The SSRL will address two issues: the relationship between economic and cultural development, and how a research and development based economy impacts both measures.

Monica Bontty will discuss 鈥淎ncient Christianities鈥� Thursday, March 6, leading 鈥渁n introduction to the development of Orthodox and Non Orthodox Christianities and the importance of the Gospels of Mary, Thomas and Judas.鈥�

On Thursday, March 13, Phillip Greenwood will speak about 鈥淭he Ring and its Power: A study of Richard Wagner鈥檚 opera cycle and how it shaped the twentieth century.鈥� The talk will specifically focus on Wagner鈥檚 鈥淒er Ring Des Nibelungen鈥� opera cycle and its effects upon music and politics, especially its full repercussions during World War II.

Nexus presentations are free, informal and open to the public. Everyone is invited to attend. 不良研究所 FRYS students are encouraged to attend and sign in.

鈥淭he Nexus is an opportunity for intellectual and cultural exchange,鈥� said Joe McGahan, 不良研究所 psychology professor and Chautauqua Nexus organizer. 鈥淭his year we're focusing on a change in scheduling (with Mondays being the primary meeting day) intended to free us to develop a think tank, or multiple think tanks, that, like the Nexus, will build on the cultural resources of our community. Whereas the Nexus series will continue to be about virtually any topic that people find interesting, the think tank will focus on economic security and economic development鈥攖o a large extent, we鈥檇 like to focus on the potential of research and development.鈥�
