Public invited to participate in future Chautauqua Nexus presentations
Fall 2007 will be the seventh anniversary of the University of Louisiana at Monroe’s educational Chautauqua Nexus series, and its organizers invite the public to contribute to the lineup.
Joe McGahan and Rick Stevens, psychology professor and associate professor, respectively, are the driving force behind this unique public speaking opportunity in northeast Louisiana.
“Rick and I welcome people to submit a topic they would be interested in discussing during this semester,” McGahan said. “Hopefully, they will realize that we have rich, indigenous resources. The Nexus is an opportunity for intellectual and cultural exchange.”
This past spring semester’s offerings included diverse topics like the Invisible Children tour, the Shakers, U.S. newspaper coverage of global warming policy, antibiotic abuse, ancient Egyptian beer brewing, the future of wastewater treatment using natural methods, and Guttermonks.
Nexus presentations are free, informal and open to the public. McGahan and Stevens encourage anyone interested in hearing or speaking about a particular topic to contact them soon, as they are working to finalize the fall 2007 schedule.
