College of Arts and Sciences recognizes outstanding students at awards convocation
The University of Louisiana at Monroe College of Arts and Sciences held its annual Awards Convocation recognizing outstanding students Thursday, April 19 at 5 p.m. in the Biedenharn Recital Hall.
Mark Arant, interim dean, issued the welcome and the introduction of the guest speaker, Carlos Fandal, a 不良研究所 professor of foreign languages and the College鈥檚 first dean.
Fandal is a native of Slidell and earned his Ph.D. at LSU in romance languages, specializing in French Renaissance literature. He completed additional studies at the University of North Carolina, the Universit茅 Paul Val茅ry, the Centre International de Recherches d鈥橢changes et de Coop茅ration de la Cara茂be et l鈥橝m茅rique Latine-Martinique, and the American Academy in Rome. Fandal began his 不良研究所 career in 1966, teaching French, Latin and Spanish, and became the first head of the department of foreign languages. In 1993, he became dean of the College of Liberal Arts, and in 2002 became dean of 不良研究所鈥檚 College of Arts and Sciences.
