English professor鈥檚 articles accepted in premier journals

Rebecca Stephenson, a 不良研究所 assistant professor of English, wrote an article recently accepted in Anglo-Saxon England, the premier journal in her field.

The article, titled 鈥淪capegoating the Secular Clergy: The Hermeneutic Style as a Form of Monastic Self-Definition,鈥 grew out of a paper that Stephenson gave at a conference in Manchester, England during Easter 2005.

The article is about using language to define in-groups and out-groups. In this case, a specific form of Latin distinguished Benedictine monks from other clerics, who did not adhere to such a strict rule.

Stephenson recently learned of a second achievement. Her article entitled, 鈥淎elfric of Eynsham and Hermeneutic Latin: Meatim Sed et Rustica Reconsidered鈥 will appear in volume 16 of the Journal of Medieval Latin.
