Perdue named new general manager for KEDM-FM

KEDM-FM, Northeast Louisiana鈥檚 only public radio station, has named Cynthia Perdue as its new general manager.

Perdue鈥檚 responsibilities include managing the station鈥檚 staff, coordinating volunteers, and leading efforts to raise funds for the station鈥檚 continued operations.

鈥淚鈥檓 very excited by this opportunity to lead KEDM into the next level of growth in the station鈥檚 ongoing mission to serve the communities of Northeast Louisiana with information, entertainment, and programming which isn鈥檛 available anywhere else,鈥� said Perdue. 鈥淭he staff is a very talented group of dedicated individuals whom I look forward to working with.鈥�

She believes that KEDM is important to the community, 鈥淜EDM provides the type of thought-provoking programming that is attractive not only to our current listeners, but also to many people who may be considering a business move to our area. I believe as such the station fulfils a role as a community and economic development resource.  There will be a number of new challenges ahead. As technology changes, the station must find ways to fund new equipment for the conversion to digital. I would love for us to develop more local programming that truly reflects the people of this area.鈥�

Perdue is the former president of the West Monroe-West Ouachita Chamber of Commerce. She began her career in commercial radio serving stations in Monroe; Jackson, Miss.; New Orleans; and Lafayette. She has earned more than 25 Associated Press (AP) awards for outstanding news coverage. Most recently, she helped KEDM bring home 19 AP awards, including three that were for her coverage of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. At that time, Perdue was filling in temporarily for News Director Sunny Meriwether, who was on sick leave.

Perdue also brings with her years of economic development and planning experience from when she lived in South Louisiana.

KEDM is located on 不良研究所鈥檚 campus. It recently celebrated its 15th anniversary.
