不良研究所 Diversity Committee Will Host Mix It Up at Lunch Day
Students often stick with people who have the same interests or backgrounds as they do and don't make an effort to get to know people who seem "different."
In an effort to encourage students at the University of Louisiana at Monroe to identify, question and cross boundaries of diversity in their university and community, the 不良研究所 Diversity Committee will host Mix It Up at Lunch Day on Tuesday, November 15, at Schulze Dining Hall from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. As part of a national movement that encourages millions of people across the country to break the "rules" that tell them where they should sit at lunch and with whom they should hang out, participants will be challenged to swap seats in the cafeterias, step out of their comfort zone and connect with new people.
"National Mix It Up Day invites students, faculty and staff members from all over to take a fresh look at the social boundaries that exist in their schools and provides an opportunity to do something about them," Dr. Phyllis Sanders, assistant professor in curriculum and instruction and event coordinator, said. "The program, a project of the Southern Poverty Law Center, aims to get students, faculty and staff members to meet new friends, regardless of race, religion, appearance or other differences that may cause barriers."
