The University of Louisiana at Monroe Police Department is working with the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission (LHSC) to participate in the 2003/2004 LHSC Safe and Sober Campaign. During the campaign, The UPD will be able to work up to fifty hours of overtime during each of the following four events:

1) National Buckle 颅 Up America (BUA) Week-November 2003
2) National You Drink & Drive You Lose Mobilization-December 2003
3) National Buckle 颅 Up America (BUA) Week-May 2004
4) National You Drink & Drive You Lose Mobilization-July 2004

The primary focus of the campaign is to decrease impaired drivers and increase safety belt usage. "We believe intensive traffic enforcement efforts in conjunction with aggressive and highly publicized public information activities will result in fewer DWI's and increase seat belt use among our citizens", said Lt. Lindsey. "This campaign will allow us to concentrate traffic enforcement and public information efforts during busy holiday periods."

"The 不良研究所 Police Department is part of a comprehensive statewide campaign involving over 100 law enforcement agencies," said LHSC Executive Director James E. Champagne. "We anticipate that the combined efforts of these law enforcement agencies will create a more safe and sober Louisiana."
