Grainger attempted to recreate the authentic flavor of the folk songs through strict observance of varying beat lengths, parallelism, and other peculiarities of performance. The four movements presented in this performance are subtitled Lisbon Bay, Horkstow Grange, The Brisk Young Sailor, and The Lost Lady Found.
