不良研究所 To Hold Charrette This Weekend

The next phase of the University of Louisiana at Monroe's "Reclaiming our Campus" begins this weekend with a charrette. The word charrette refers to an intensive planing session where individuals with varying expertise come together to develop a vision and a plan for its realization. Community leaders, 不良研究所 students, faculty, and staff will all gather for this landscaping project for 不良研究所.

The charrette will take place on Saturday, May 25th, in the 不良研究所 Conference Center located on the 7th floor of the Library. It will begin at 8:00 a.m. with introductions and team assignments. Participants will be hearing from Bruce Sharky, Director of LSU's School of Landscape Architecture. From 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. the teams will go out on campus looking, assessing, and taking inventory of existing plants and structures. From 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 there will be a working lunch for the participants. Teams will then report on what they have found.

"This University charrette is organized with the goal of formulating a master landscaping plan for the 不良研究所 campus. Since the University is a major contributor to our community, the 不良研究所 Administration has asked interested stakeholders and design professionals from our area to work together in preparing a plan that will result in something that will be appealing to the University and enhance the community at large, " said Steve Richters, Chairperson of "Reclaiming Our Campus" Implementation Committee, and 不良研究所 Interim Provost.

"Mr. Bruce Sharky, Director of the LSU School of Landscape Architecture, will be our facilitator and master planner. Through brainstorming and discussion, we can first develop a vision. Then, because of the unique collaborative nature of a charrette with participation from a cross section of our community, we will produce a plan that is both efficienct and cost effective," said Richters.

All media welcome. If you are a member of the media and would like to attend the luncheon, please call Sheila at 342-1025 to reserve a seat.
