University of Louisiana System President Sally Clausen to deliver 不良研究所 commencement address
Dr. Sally Clausen, president of the University of Louisiana System, will be the featured speaker at the University of Louisiana at Monroe's Summer Commencement Ceremonies, Saturday.
Commencement begins at 2 p.m. at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
As a classroom teacher, Clausen quickly became an advocate for children with special needs. Later in her professional career, she taught at Louisiana State University, was Assistant Dean of Students at Southeastern Louisiana University, became Commissioner of Higher Education for the Board of Regents and served as Louisiana's Secretary of Education.
Prior to being named President of the UL System, Clausen served as President of Southeastern Louisiana, a campus of more than 15,300 graduate and undergraduate students. At, SLU, she was a leader in implementing admission standards, strengthening and increasing partnerships with schools and businesses, promoting diversity, and developing international partnerships for student and faculty exchanges and study abroad opportunities.
Clausen has been active with a number of professional groups including the Southern Regional Education Board, Education Commission for the States, and the American Association of State Colleges and universities. Recently, she was asked to chair a national AASCU task force on teacher preparation.
Clausen also participates in "think tanks" such as the Brookings Institute of Washington, D.C. and the Colorado-based Aspen Institute on subjects related to increasing partnerships between schools and colleges and public sector accountability, With U.S. Secretary of Education Richard Riley and Brazil's Minister of Education Flvio Grynszpan, she has participated in the Fourth Binational Meeting on internationalization of higher education.
Most of Clausen's professional publications have centered on the appropriate assessment and education of students with special needs. However, her article on the practical value of higher education and its need to change also appeared in Voices of America for Higher Education.
