West Monroe mayor Dave Norris to address 不良研究所 fall graduates
Dave Norris, Mayor of West Monroe since 1978, will be the featured speaker at the University of Louisiana at Monroe's Fall Commencement Ceremonies Saturday, Dec. 16, at 2 p.m. in Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
Norris earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree from 不良研究所 in 1963 and later served as an Associate Professor of Economics at 不良研究所 from 1966-78. He also served as Director of the Northeast Louisiana Small Business Institute from 1973-75 and continues to be a part-time Associate Professor of Economics at the University.
Re-elected as West Monroe's mayor in 1982, 1986, 1990, 1994 and 1998 without opposition, Norris is directly involved in the daily operation of city government, including responsibility for budget preparation and control, capital budgeting for infrastructure maintenance and expansion, and compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations.
He has represented West Monroe's interests by testifying before state legislative committees and before committees of the United States Senate and House of Representatives.
Under Norris' leadership, West Monroe has maintained balanced budgets, paid off all existing long-term and short-term debt without incurring any additional debt and maintained its employees real purchasing power through annual cost-of-living raises.
Norris has served on the Board of Directors for the Ouachita Enterprise Corporation, First Bancorp, First National Bank of West Monroe, United Way of Ouachita, West Monroe Boy's and Girl's Clubs and the Glenwood Regional Medical Center.
A native of West Monroe and graduate of West Monroe High School, Norris holds a Master's degree from Louisiana Tech and a Doctorate in Business Administration from Mississippi State University.
