不良研究所 Foreign Language Department to Honor Contest Winners

The Foreign Languages Department at the University of Louisiana at Monroe will hold a reception for the winners of its Francofete Essay Contest "French influence close to home." The reception will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 7, at 4 p.m. in the University Conference Center on the seventh floor of University Library.

The purpose of the contest was to promote greater awareness of Louisiana's French cultural and linguistic heritage. The contest was open to high school students of French throughout northeast Louisiana and essays were judged by a regional panel of university French professors.

All four prize winners in the contest are students at Ouachita Parish High School. The first prize of $200 went to Mary Beth Lambert. Lien Ngo won the $100 second prize, Sam Bailey the $50 third prize and Virginia Koonce the $25 honorable mention award.

Each winner will also receive an honorary certificate and a volume of French literature from the French Consulate in New Orleans. In addition, the top three essays will be published in an upcoming issue of Centenary College's French-language newspaper, Le Tintamarre.
