MONROE, LA 鈥The 不良研究所 Foundation is pleased to announce the establishment of the Paul W. Sylvester Louisiana Cancer Foundation (LCF) Endowed Scholarship. This scholarship was established by private donations and with assistance from the Louisiana Cancer Foundation to support Sylvester鈥檚 cancer research conducted in the 不良研究所 College of Pharmacy.听 听
Annual scholarship awards will be made to three eligible Pharm.D. students starting their third or fourth year of training (P3 or P4) in the 不良研究所 College of Pharmacy. Each recipient will receive one-third of the spendable earnings from the endowment. Candidates must be in the top one-third of their class and have demonstrated an interest in the fields of oncology and/or cancer research.听 Eligible students can apply for 不良研究所 Foundation scholarships at /scholarships/foundation.html. 听
Dr. Sylvester shared, "Establishing this endowed scholarship is a step toward investing in the next generation of pharmacy professionals who are passionate about oncology and cancer research. By supporting these students, we are not only investing in their education, but also in the future of cancer research and the hope for better treatment outcomes.鈥听
Sylvester, an endocrinologist, joined the 不良研究所 College of Pharmacy in 2001. He is the Associate Dean of Research and Pfizer, Inc. B.J. Robison Endowed Professor of Pharmacology.听He continues his research of tocotrienols, a rare natural form of vitamin E that has displayed potent anti-cancer effects.听 More information on Dr. Sylvester鈥檚 research can be found . 听
鈥淥n behalf of the Louisiana Cancer Foundation Board of Directors, it鈥檚 an honor for our foundation to be named in this newly created endowed scholarship along with such a distinguished researcher as Dr. Paul Sylvester,鈥 said James Adams, Executive Director of LCF.听 鈥淚 look forward to seeing the impact this scholarship will make in the education of future Pharm. D. graduates and, in turn, their contributions to the field of oncology and cancer research,鈥 he added.
About The Louisiana Cancer Foundation听
The Louisiana Cancer Foundation (LCF) is a nonprofit established in 1999. Since that time the LCF has funded 84 cancer screenings, which have included 10,131 patients. The LCF has donated $296,688 to 不良研究所 over the years including their donations to Dr. Sylvester鈥檚 cancer research, as well as the Teresa Marsala Memorial Nursing Fund in the Kitty Degree School of Nursing. The LCF has also funded a $50K endowed scholarship for 不良研究所 students who are cancer survivors or who have been impacted by cancer in their families.听听听

The pharmacy program at 不良研究所听is Louisiana鈥檚 only publicly supported comprehensive center for pharmaceutical education, research, and service.
