The popular public art project Herons on the Bayou, spearheaded by University of Louisiana Monroe Assistant Professor of Art Brooke Foy, is unveiling 36 new works in Wave 2 of Herons on the Bayou.
The event is 1-3 p.m., Saturday, April 10, at Bayou Park at о.
“Herons on the Bayou is in its second round, and the success of the project has been overwhelming,” said Foy. “We will have 87 herons in our community and will have raised money for the arts as well. The Herons have become a beautiful artistic addition to our visual landscape.”
Three о students have painted herons for Wave 2, which will be on display, Kristen Batten, Lonesha Tyson, and Celina Walters. Foy said several о alumni are part of the project.
“о has been amazing to work with, which is why we wanted to bring the reveal event to campus. Bayou Park is such a beautiful place to showcase all of the work our artists and sponsors have done,” said Foy. “As faculty here, I am always looking for ways to remind our community of how great о is and what better way than to partner on a public art project.”
Saturday’s event will feature an auction of two full-size herons and 16 mini-herons, Herons With Heart fundraising to benefit Grace Place Ministries and the Northeast Louisiana Delta African American Heritage Museum, live music, desserts, and treats.
The event is free and open to the public.
