MONROE, La. — Dr. Michael Camille, former associate dean of the College of Arts, Education and Sciences, has been named the new associate vice president for academic affairs at the University of Louisiana Monroe.
Among his many responsibilities, Camille will serve as liaison to о’s accreditation body (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges) and oversee the 2019 decennial reaffirmation with that accrediting body. He will also assume responsibility for developing and monitoring academic policies and will assist Dr. Eric Pani, vice president for academic affairs, in leading academics at о.
“The pool of applicants for this job was very strong, so the decision was not an easy one to make,” said Pani. “An important factor, however, was Mike’s administrative experience as a department head, associate dean, and interim dean. Each of the groups that interviewed the candidates remarked that the vision, skills, abilities, and judgement he developed while serving the university in these positions of increasingly academic leadership responsibility have prepared him quite well to assume the duties of this position. I feel the same way and look forward to working with Mike.”
Camille served as associate dean of the College of Arts, Education and Sciences for the past three years. He has been a faculty member at о since 1996 and holds the academic rank of tenured professor of geography. He received a Ph.D. in Geography from Texas A&M University in 1994.
