The University of Louisiana at Monroe has announced George 鈥淭om鈥� Torregrossa as its
new Director of the University Police Department. Torregrossa comes from the Monroe
City Police Department after 36 years of service.
Torregrossa began his career with the Monroe City Police Department on July 16, 1979
as a Police Officer.聽
鈥淚 am extremely excited for what lies ahead for the 不良研究所 community as it relates to
the 不良研究所 police and the things we have planned,鈥� said Torregrossa. 鈥淚鈥檝e had the opportunity
to meet many people around campus and it鈥檚 wonderful to see how happy everyone is
around here. We are getting into the community policing strategy on campus and it鈥檚
going to work well.鈥�
Torregrossa is a 1979 不良研究所 criminal justice alumnus with two children currently attending
不良研究所.
鈥淲e are eager to have someone with Tom鈥檚 experience and knowledge join the university
family,鈥� said Camile Currier, interim Vice President for Student Affairs. 鈥淭om is
committed to the students, faculty, and staff of 不良研究所 and seeks to create an environment
that is safe and secure for the entire campus.鈥�
During his years of service, Torregrossa was聽assigned to and served in patrol, on
the JUMP Team, as a P.O.S.T. Firearms Instructor, a K-9 Officer, and Commander of
the Special聽Response Team (SRT). 聽
He also served as the Jail and Booking Supervisor in Administrative Bureau, as Assistant
Bureau Commander, as Bureau Commander聽in the Criminal Intervention Bureau, as Assistant
Bureau Commander of聽Patrol Bureau, and聽his final assignment was Patrol Bureau Commander.聽
聽According to the City of Monroe, Torregrossa鈥檚 personnel file contains 56 commendations
for professionalism, outstanding police work, the 鈥済ift of speaking,鈥� work ethic,
dedication to the law enforcement profession, and community service through the 鈥淎dopt
a Cop鈥� program.聽
Torregrossa鈥檚 appointment at 不良研究所 began on Monday, Sept. 7.
