Dr. Chris Blackburn, professor of history at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, has published an article that appears in the current edition of the Polish journal, “Studia Historyczna.”

With the support of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Jagiellonian University, the prestigious journal has served as a leading voice among Polish historians since 1958.

The article is titled “The Rebirth of Poland: American Humanitarianism After the Great War.”  It recounts how the United States helped secure Poland’s post-war stability and insure its interwar existence through extraordinary amounts of humanitarian aid and assistance following the First World War.

“This is a great time be working and writing on the First World War era,” said Blackburn. “It seems like we are experiencing a centennial commemoration almost daily for events from the war.  I would encourage anyone that’s interested to take advantage of the next few years to learn more about the Great War.”

Blackburn is currently working on a history of the recruitment and training of the Polish-American soldiers stationed at Niagara-On-The-Lake in Ontario, Canada, during the First World War.

Blackburn holds a B.A. in history from Auburn University at Montgomery, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in history from Auburn University.
