The School of Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) at the University of Louisiana at
Monroe will present a concert featuring the Wind Ensemble at 7:30 p.m., on Oct. 14,
in Brown Auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public.
The Wind Ensemble is conducted by Dr. Derle R. Long, director of VAPA.
The concert theme is 鈥淏and Dancing,鈥� and features a selection of works derived from
ballet, opera, and other dance music sources.
Included is 鈥淪arabande and Polka鈥� from the Malcolm Arnold Ballet 鈥淪olitare;鈥� Sir Arthur
Sullivan鈥檚 鈥淧ineapple Poll Suite,鈥� which is a parody of opera overtures and arias;
鈥淐akewalk,鈥� based on piano melodies of Louis Moreau Gottschalk; 鈥淒ance of the Jesters,鈥�
by Peter I. Tchaikovsky, and a ragtime piece by John Philip Sousa titled 鈥淲ith Pleasure.鈥�
