Master of Science in听Counseling

Submission Materials

In order to be admitted to the Graduate School, applicants must complete a Graduate School application, submit all undergraduate and graduate transcripts, and submit GRE scores for the General test if needed. In addition, applicants are required to submit a resume of professional qualifications, a letter of intent, and three letters of recommendation for review by the M.S. Counseling Admission Selection Committee.听听

GRE General Test. Applicants must submit GRE General test score of 300 or higher if they:
(a) have an undergraduate GPA of 2.74 or lower, or
(b) have an undergraduate GPA of 2.74 or lower and a graduate GPA of 3.49 or lower.

Regular Status

Applicants must meet one of the following minimum requirements to be听regularly admitted:

Any graduate, terminal, or professional degree from a regionally accredited university with a GPA of 3.50 or higher. No GRE required.

OR

a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.75 (based on a 4.0 scale) from a regionally accredited university. No GRE required.

OR

a GPA of 2.75 in the last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework from a regionally accredited university. If overall GPA is 2.74 or lower, GRE required with a score of 300 or higher.

Conditional Status

Applicants must meet one of the following minimum requirements to be听conditionally admitted:

Minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.5 (based on a 4.0 scale) from a regionally accredited university. GRE required with a score of 300 or higher.

OR

a GPA of 2.5 in the last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework from a regionally accredited university. GRE required with a score of 300 or higher.

OR

a GPA between 2.2 and 2.49, and a minimum formula score of 660 (2.2 GPA x 300 GRE)

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I do with a graduate degree in counseling?
Graduates from our program work in a variety of settings- hospitals, IOP programs, nursing homes, private practice, veteran's affairs, schools, and government- or privately-funded facilities. You may work as a school, mental health, addictions, geriatric, or art and play counselor; you may also work as a case management worker, in administration, or as a consultant.

Is the program accredited?
The program has accreditation from the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education/Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (NCATE/CAEP).听

How long is the program?
The program is 60 credit hours, or 20 courses. Full-time students typically finish in two years.
